The mission in San Ignacio celebrated its one year anniversary on January 6th. The mission began meeting on an outdoor basketball court, but have since moved to a small building rented by La Fuente Riviera for the San Ignacio mission.
About 15 adults and 40 kids regularly attend meetings in this small town of about 300 people. Many of the children come on their own without their parents. The adults work out of town, and often both parents work to support their families in this economically disadvantaged town. As a result, the children raise each other. It is very common to see the older children taking care of the younger ones. Eight year olds carry around their baby siblings. Even children from different families watch out for one another. That these children return to the mission on their own initiative week after week to learn about Christ is both thrilling and humbling.
We have seen growth as adults and children alike learn basic truths about the Bible, salvation, and their identity in Christ. The mission participates in the breakfast program and Kilo x Kilo, La Fuente Riviera’s work for food program. We are currently working to raise up leadership among the women who faithfully attend the San Ignacio mission, that they might begin teaching children’s classes and investing in the mission as their home church.
